Darkening Solution

This stuff works great if you want your hardware or any other piece of brass to instantly age. However, the brass cannot have a tarnish-resistant coating on it or it wont have any effect. Acetone, found everywhere you find paint and varnish removers, is a product that will usually take this coating off. Darkening Solution works very well and very quickly. If you leave your brass piece soaking in it for even just a couple of minutes, it will come out close to black, so check it every 10 to 15 seconds. A quick buffing with very fine steel wool on the high spots will add highlights.  Please note that the solution will not work on lacquered or brass plated surfaces.

Regular Kotton Klenser Cleaner

This one of the best things AH&M staff has found for a couple of different tasks. First, it's a great overall cleaner for woods, leathers, oil paintings, etc.

Secondly, it's perfect for antiques that have a dark, heavy old finish. Kotton Klenser, with some extra fine steel wool is great for taking off the heavy build up that hides wood grain.

It's usually our first line of offense on an old stained piece because it's very gentle, doesn't have a strong odor and often is the only "stripping" that needs to be done.  Due to the weight of this product, there is an additional $.50 shipping charge per jar.

Crackle Finish
